What is Cloud Storage and Should We Be Using It?

Cloud storage is a model of data storage where the digital data storage spans across multiple servers and often in multiple locations. These cloud storage providers are responsible for keeping the data available and accessible, and the physical environment protected and running. People and organizations buy or lease storage capacity from the providers to store end user, organization, or application data.

Cloud storage can be extremely helpful to those who work outside of the office on a regular basis, but still need access to company data. It allows you to access your data from any location that has an internet connection. Data can be accessed via laptop, smartphone, tablet, etc. Beware though, several providers give cloud storage away for free, but they aren’t typically very secure. You probably don’t want to put your company data on a free solution. The best ones will have authentication and encryption features built in for security, as well as an audit trail to track and alert you if your data has been compromised.

This secure storage is still very reasonably priced, and can be purchased for as little at $10 per month for 10GB of data through NRG. If you are interested in Cloud Storage for your organization, please contact us at 701-250-9400.
